Festivals and Celebrations


Presenting sponsors NuStar and Bear Head LNG along with co-ordinators,The Town of Port Hawkesbury, are pleased to announce an award winning line up for the 2016 season of the popular festival series; Granville Green.  Cape Breton has been a musical destination for decades and this season the mix of artists performing in our community includes International and home crowd favourites, to delight and captivate a new generation of concert goers.

Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs to the scenic park on Granville Street to enjoy the 6 Sunday evening concerts which commence weekly at 7:00 PM beginning July 3rd and mark the 23rd year of this award winning cultural celebration.

The series kicks off July 3rd with Ireland’s traditional music phenoms Skipper’s Alley. Opening for them are the folk belles of Australia, The Mae Trio.

On July 10 the pride of Mabou; Heather Rankin celebrates her new solo CD with New Brunswick songwriter Andy Brown kicking off the show.

July 17th Next Generation Leahy joins us from Ontario for a fabulous display of traditional folk, fiddle and fiery feet, opening act Dylan Menzie from PEI celebrates his top 4 finalist spot in the CBC National Searchlight competition.

July 24 we welcome back GRAMMY winner and Big Pond native son; Gordie Sampson with indie folk stars Port Cities.

July 31 brings Cape Breton’s Pretty Archie back into Port with Andre Pettipas and finally JUNO winners join us Aug 7th for our final show. The award winning Wintersleep with opening act Walrus.

Granville green is presented by Nustar and Bear Head LNG and the following cultural supporters: Port Hawkesbury Paper, TD Bank, Nova Scotia Power, Exxon Mobil, Barykin, 1015 The Hawk, Maritime Inns, Canadian Heritage, Destination Cape Breton, Sound Source, The Reporter.
