PUBLIC NOTICE – Planned Water System Connection – Monday, December 8, 2025
Posted on:
The Town of Port Hawkesbury will be completing a final water system connection (“tie-in”) on Monday, December 8, 2025.
(A tie-in is simply the last step where new pipes or equipment are connected to the existing water system.)
To complete this work safely, the main water line from the Water Treatment Plant will be shut off from about 5:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
What this means for you?
- Most residents will still have water and not notice any change as water will be supplied from the Town’s water storage tanks during the work.
- The work has been coordinated with the local Fire Department.
- You may notice lower water pressure or brief pressure changes during the day.
- Point Tupper customers will be without water for the full shutdown period, those homes and businesses will be contacted directly.
Why this work is happening?
- This connection is the final step in the Town’s Water System Upgrades Project. Once complete, the upgraded system will be fully in service and will improve overall reliability.
What you should do?
- If you live in Point Tupper and are serviced by the Municipal water system, please store enough water ahead of time for drinking, cooking, and toilets.
- For everyone else, water service should not see a significant change throughout the work.
- If possible, avoid laundry or other heavy water uses during the shutdown window.
After service returns
- When the water is turned back on, you may notice air in the lines or slight discoloration. If this happens, run cold water for a few minutes and it should clear.
Updates and questions
- Updates will be shared on the Town website and social media, and through local radio if needed.
If you have questions or issues while the work is ongoing, please contact Public Works:

Thank you for your patience while we complete these important upgrades.
